I Can Only Go Up From Here

A New Hampshire Yankee in Los Angeles. Will Oggy find fame and Fortune? Will Oggy get his car to run? Will Oggy even find a job? Probably not, but won't it be funny to read about how close he gets?

A new leaf

Oggy woke up today, the sun was shining, the helicopters were following their perps, Venice fest was swinging with hippies and homeless people cavorting on the beach. And Oggy's girlfriend was moments away from becoming an EX. Oggy has seen more than one car drive away for other states. He's seen more than one tear in his day. Today was different. It was like the nurse was going for a shopping trip (which she never did when she was here). Did I need any milk? Or toilet paper? But she was going to the other coast. She was gone and Oggy swept out the garage, symbolically cleaning up after nearly three troubled years. There is no point in going into details. It was a doomed relationship from the moment Oggy pulled into a hotel in Gallup NM and saw the name "Patel" on the business license.

"We can't sleep here. It's owned by a Patel," said Oggy.
"I don't fucking believe you. You're such an idiot." replied the nurse. And Oggy knew that when the going got tough, when it came to a contest between Oggy and the nurse, the nurse would resort to name calling, and belittling Oggy. He'd seen this before. He knew the signs, but it was too late. They were in New Mexico and on their way to L.A. Little did Oggy know but it would never get as good as that night in New Mexico. The Nurse was sorry for snapping at Oggy. She'd been tired from driving ten hours. She was out of her element. She was never sorry again. Wait awaited them in Los Angeles was a sick, dying man, a crazed dog, several ugly jobs, a difficult two years in college, and the end of the road. Oggy knew this day would come. He decided, as he walked to the Dollar Store to get some milk, that his lack of emotion was due to either the fact the nurse was gone hadn't sunk in yet, or due to the fact it had sunk in long long ago. Oggy was leaning toward the latter. The bitter seed had been planted at the Patel motel. It had been nurtured through numerous fights and arguments and rejections. It had finally reached full maturity months ago when Oggy decided he would either leave or kick the nurse out. But he decided he would ride it out until the Nurse graduated and left, which happened a two weeks ago. The day finally arrived, at as Oggy suspected, it had actually arrived many months before. This was like receiving a letter in the mail telling you that you should have received a letter in the mail. Did you? Oh, yeah. What was that about? It was like it had never happened.
