The glass bathroom
Oggy has been reading news from Al Jazeera. It is equally biased, but makes him wonder. If America has become a glass bathroom where everyone can watch and record people shitting, then what does that say about our respect for freedom? IF that's the best we can do, then it makes Oggy wonder. We glorify freedom to publicly shit, and are horrified that other countries place restrictions on it. Consider this: Iraq has been a civilization for 3000 years. America has been one for 300. So who do you think is more advanced? Sure, we have better toasters and cars, but are we really more advanced. Thy have 2700 more years to figure out that people really can't be trusted with freedom. America is just learning this fact. Yet we claim that we learned freedom first and are now spreading it around. Is it possible that in the last 2700 years, Iraq also had a short period of unfettered freedom that didn't work out. That it was in fact a dark era that they don't even want to remember. A dark ear that America has entered and is now repeating. Oggy is just running his mouth, but he thinks that it is very possible America is a juvenile country with an immature view of freedom and society and maybe it has a lot to learn from "backward" countries.
What if Captain Kirk landed on an ancient planet where everyone was Muslim. He would have to consider the possibility that they were more advanced and that they were the end result of limiting freedom. Or there is the possibility that man will learn to use its freedom for good, like taking care of a rabid tiger. But isn't that just wishful thinking? All the evidence points in the other direction: Given unlimited freedom, man will destroy the planet and each other. We will not self-limit. No chance. We need oppression or else we self-destruct.
just a thought.
